↠ THE CHARACTER
Name | Alias: Gwendolyn
Journal:
valkyria
Age: Unknown, she's of age to be married, so we'll go with 18
Canon: Odin Sphere
Canon point: Post chapter 3, after she is put to sleep by her father, before she is awakened.
History: here
Personality: Gwendolyn as a person is fiercely loyal. Once she finds someone whom she wishes to be loved by, she will do anything and everything for them just to hear the words that she ever so longs for. That is what motivates her. While it is an honor to fight in battle and that is all she has known her entire life, battle itself is not what drives her, though she has a difficult time simply standing still and watching as war rages on. If she can do something about it, then she will pick up her blade and fight. No matter the masses or the types of soldiers that come at her, she has more than enough faith in herself to take them on. After all, she took an entire enemy on in their kingdom by herself. She is not a force to be reckoned with in the least.
Along with this comes with some stubbornness. It is difficult, if not impossible, to make her change her mind once she’s decided upon something. If she believes she can do it, then by all means with her power and honor as a Valkyrie, she will wear her battle armor, pick up her blade and do battle. Though along with this comes the self-sacrificial side of the girl. She was willing to betray her king and country to save a girl his father loved more than her. She was willing to die and betray her father yet again for the man she fell madly in love with. Love is her primary motivator and well, it makes her do very crazy things.
Outside of the battlefield, she is very polite, much like a princess should be. She may not be spoiled or a pushover, however, she still has the qualities one would expect of royalty. Her army follows her commands, which shows us she is very respected as an individual. While most people speak in fancy terms, her wording is nothing but polite, even in times when she is upset. While angered, her tone and expression reveal all that needs to be shown to show the one who had angered her just how upset she is with them. However, even in those times, she is able to keep their composure and will not engage in battle unless there is no other alternative. While she finds herself almost happiest on the battlefield, she doesn’t need a good fight to remain happy.
She does find her purpose to be in battle, and that is a hard concept for her to get rid of. If she can fight, then she will. If she finds someone whom she trusts, she will fight in their stead if need be. It can be said that she receives a certain excitement in battle, that thrill when one has a good fight, however, it isn’t shown by any conventional means. Rather, it is shown by how a Valkyrie is deemed ‘useless’, the moment she is wed off. Then her purpose would be to bear children and create new warriors to fight in her stead. Even after being married, Gwendolyn still fought, which shows us that her very pride does stem from battle itself. If she can still be useful, then, by all means, she will show this and continue to participate in battle until she is no longer needed.
Others have commented that Gwendolyn is far too soft and kind, and that is likely why she's gotten into the trouble she has for the position she's in. Being the daughter of King Odin doesn't give anyone leeway to show kindness or mercy, but Gwendolyn does just that. However, if one opposes someone she loves and threatens their lives, we see a fierce side of her that is, quite frankly, scary. She threatens to cut off King Onyx's hands if he continues to insult her husband. She kills an esteemed general for trying to trample on her father's feelings and authority.
In regards to her relationship with her father, Odin, she plays the part of the loyal daughter. She does everything for him in hopes that one day he will say words of praise and honor to her. It's to the point that she would die for her father believing that he would say such words about her and glorify her name. Now, this isn't about becoming a famous or a Valkyrie who's name will be immortalized, rather she just wants to hear words from her father that confirms he loves her as a father. Her troops respect her, but that's not what she wants. She's motivated by loving words she hopes to one day hear from her father.
It all changes when she finds herself wed to Oswald. She was given to him as a gift from her father in exchange for him killing the dragon, Wagner. From the very start, Oswald showered love on Gwendolyn, even presenting her with a prized ring. She does everything she can to fight feelings for him, believing she was put under a spell to love the man who kisses her awake, though that was later disproven. Slowly, she devotes herself to Oswald, to hear those words of love, though it's difficult because she still wants her father to love her. She learns rather quickly that she cannot have both Oswald's love and Odin's love. After hurting Oswald by giving away the ring he presented her, she realizes it's clear in her mind who she loves more and who she wants to be loved by. That moment also makes it clear that her father's words of love were hollow.
After all, her father only loved her half-sister, Velvet. Gwendolyn was jealous of Velvet because she saw her father loved her, but because of that, Gwendolyn sought to keep Velvet safe when General Brigan conspired against Odin and used Velvet as bait. Honestly, Gwendolyn only shares to care for Velvet because her father did, still, Velvet mentions while Gwendolyn is asleep that she is far too kind. That she deserves a man who will love her and treat her well. So while Gwendolyn's acts are really selfish, others regard her as kind and self-sacrificial. Because she only seeks love, and nothing else.
Abilities and Nerfs: Gwendolyn is very capable with a spear and shield and thus is a balanced fighter in battle. Along with her wings that are magically attached to her hips she is capable of short term flight and can glide in the air.
Magic wise, her spear feeds off of death and collects things called phozons. Since I'm not entire sure if she can feed off death in the station, her abilities are probably going to be a no go. Though if there could be a workaround, she can create a clone of herself temporarily and has ice powers. Great for multiple partners and temperature play ;)
If not, no big deal.
Inventory: Her spear, her wings, headdress, and the outfit she's wearing.
Appearance: here
Five Desires:
- Beautiful dresses
- Tickets or coupons for the town to go on a date
- A place where she can practice and keep up her warrior skills
- A day at the spa to be pampered
- And while not a desire she can probably get but I'm putting it here because I'm out of ideas- to love someone and be loved in return.
